Over the last few days the amount of unconfirmed transactions on the bitcoin network has almost double. Today the unconfirmed transactions are over 260,000 and this has resulted in the fees per transaction to go way up.
A lot of payment providers are having to reconsider their strategies because making a $3 payment for a specialty coffee just doesn't work anymore on the bitcoin network. I have heard companies like bitpay are now looking at of crypto currencies that can handle mass transactions at low cost and some people are thinking lightning might be the solution for bitcoin.
Either way the challenge is one for these companies to figure out what path to take and place their bets.
